TRAINING

Currently Just Fur Kids Dog Daycare® is not offering formalized puppy classes and/or obedience training.  However, fur kids attending daycare will be consistently asked to uphold the manners that they have been taught at home and/or from classes outside of daycare.  Manners reinforced at daycare include no barking, no jumping up on people or walls, waiting to pass through doorways, sitting for food, lying down when asked, heeling when walking, coming when called, leaving something alone, and backing off to name a few.  If there are specific manners you would like your fur kid to practice while at daycare, please let us know and we will do our best assist you with your endeavors.

The fur kids’ regular day at daycare is comprised of a series of structured activities.  This intentional curriculum is in place not just for mental and physical exercise, but also to stimulate and encourage them to follow instruction and understand expectations.  Fun games of search as well as simple agility exercises not only challenge the fur kids’ abilities, but can sometimes identify special skills in certain fur kids.

Behavioral Issues

For fur kids who have specific behaviors that fur parents wish to address, Just Fur Kids Dog Daycare® highly recommends Ms. Leslee Innes of  Maxcell German Shepherd Dogs out in Aldersyde, Alberta.  Leslee has over 30 years of fur kid experience, and not just with German Shepherds… everything from the inner workings of the show world, to breeding, to specialized training, to behavioral assessment and modification.  She is an honest and forthright lady who will tailor the training method based on the individual fur kid’s situation and needs.   Leslee can be reached either by email at linnes@ourmail.ca or by phone at (403) 652-1392.

Basic Obedience

If there is sufficient interest in the spring, Ms Leslee Innes may possibly offer introductory obedience for fur kids under 6 months.  Please let us at the daycare know if this is something you would like us to host.

Pet First Aid

Since 2016, Just Fur Kids Dog Daycare® has been a proud host for many certification classes of the Walks ‘n Wags Pet First Aid® course.  This 10 hour, one or two day format course is a must for every fur parent.  Learn about everything from identifying conditions, to treating injuries, to preventing parasites, and much more.  The classes are hands on and all materials are provided.  Fur kids are also welcome to attend and participate*.  Successful completion of the course includes an internationally recognized certificate that is valid for three years.

We were sad at the end of 2018 that instructor Ms. Ellis van Schuur of Paws First Aid decided to retire from teaching this course to follow other animal pursuits.  Serendipitously though, we connected with one of her 2016 students certified at Just Fur Kids Dog Daycare® and we are proud to continue offering this invaluable course.  Ms. Elizabeth Minor of Life Tracks Pet First Aid & CPR Training offers sessions every other month, usually during the last weekend of the month in either a continuous one day format on Sunday or a split two day format over both days of the weekend.

Check out their sites for further information about the course.  Life Tracks Pet First Aid & CPR Training and Walks n Wags Pet First Aid.
